MISSION

The goal of the ELM Internship program is to provide individuals with hands-on experience in the field of Early Childhood.  Interns will work and develop relationships with the classroom teachers, directors, and ELM personnel.  The collaboration promotes and enhances emergent literacy in pre-k classrooms.  It is our expectation that the classroom teacher and intern will learn from each other through the process of planning and implementing literacy focused activities in the classroom.

The primary role of the intern is to assist the classroom teacher with consistent, daily integration of the ELM model into curriculum.

What does an ELM Internship involve?

• An intern must be enrolled at Hillsborough Community College (HCC) and in good academic standing with the college.
• An intern must be in Practicum 1 – 2 or have successfully completed at least two Early Childhood Education classes at Hillsborough Community College.
• Interns should have an interest in Early Childhood and want to gain knowledge outside the standard HCC classroom.
• ELM interns are paid (maximum 220 hours per semester).
• An intern is assigned to several ELM classrooms by the Intern Coordinator.
• Interns will be actively involved with the classroom teacher in the planning and implementation of literacy activities.
• Daily classroom to provide critical support for ongoing classroom literacy activities. Participation is expected.
• ELM interns are expected to represent the ELM program with professionalism at all times.
